Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Homemade cranberry sauce is probably the simplest part of the traditional Thanksgiving meal. If you are still serving that stuff from a can - complete with High Fructose Corn Syrup - then allow me to share how easy it is to make the real stuff.

Homemade Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients:
  • 1 bag of fresh cranberries (12 oz. package)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water or orange juice (or half water and half orange juice)
Directions:

Mix all ingredients in saucepan. Bring to boil then simmer until the berries pop and it reaches your preferred texture, stirring occasionally. Chill until ready to serve.

Yep, that's all there is to it. You can also add about 1/2 cup of apricot preserves after it's cooked. Chill and then serve spooned over a block of cream cheese. Serve with crackers as a festive appetizer.

See? There's no reason to resort to the canned stuff. My daughter did a post about this a couple of  years ago, including photos. You can see it here
